Contributions

You can contribute to RAPPID with a poster, a lightning talk, a case study or challenge or a full paper. Accepted contributions will be published, most probably via Springer (news will follow soon).

Types of contributions (details under the ‘+’ )

A poster can be about ongoing, just finished, or planned work.  Use this platform to ask questions of any kind and to pick the collective brain. Students especially should feel welcome to present their thesis results. The nature of the posters can vary from questions, challenges, conundrums, research that ended nowhere, but that you cannot let go of; ideas that went bust despite your still thinking it is a good idea, and new ideas that you are excited about.

Details
Format: Propose your poster in 2-4 pages. Use the Springer format for the proposals. After acceptance: turn your proposal into a visually attractive poster.
Deadline: 13 April 2026 AOE
Notification: 15 May 2026

Lightning talks are ultra short presentations where contributors can make a forceful engaging inspiring defying recalcitrant or otherwise interesting point. Climb the soap box and call the community out on how academia could, should or would work together, instruct them to change their ways, or give them praise. Whichever you feel like.

Format: Propose your lightning talk in 1-2 pages. Use the Springer format for the proposals.

We invite case study submissions that demonstrate the application of Interaction Design principles in real-world contexts, with a particular focus on successful collaborations between academia and industry. Submissions should highlight projects where researchers and practitioners worked together to solve practical design challenges, showcasing how these partnerships contributed to innovative solutions and the advancement of the field. Case studies may also illustrate opportunities or needs for stronger collaboration between academia and industry, emphasizing the benefits of bridging research and practice in Interaction Design. It is also possible to describe a (set of) challenges that keep recurring or to share reflections on your professional or research practice.

We are especially interested in contributions that detail how Interaction Design methods were adapted and applied, and discussing the unique insights gained from partnerships between academics and professional practitioners. Submissions should go beyond the project outcomes to offer broader reflections on the implications for the Interaction Design community, providing valuable lessons for both researchers and practitioners.

Format: A case study, challenge or reflection is 6-8 pages long, excluding references. Use the Springer format for the proposals.
Deadline: 28 February 2026 AOE
Notification: 12 April 2026

Participants can propose a workshop that aims to explore various topics within research-practice gap in Interaction design between academics and professional practice. Examples could be
– discrepancies between academic study results and real-world test results of specific designs solutions
– differences in languaging between academics and professional practice
The workshop leader can decide for themselves how they would like to structure the workshop and how many contributions and in which form they welcome.
The workshops are part of the main program. No extra fees are required to participate. It is, however, possible to enroll for just one workshop (day 2).

Details
Format: A workshop proposal can be 4-6 pages long, excluding references. Use the Springer format for the proposals.
Deadline: 28 February 2026 AOE
Notification: 12 April 2026
A workshop host is responsible for organizing the speakers and contributors to their workshop.

Three workshops have been determined already. On the first day we will have three workshops discussing different ways to cross the research practice gap, namely:

  • Knowledge products: products that structurally help transfer knowledge from the professional practice to academia and back
  • Agenda setting: which research questions do we select and how do we ensure it is a joint question
  • Infrastructure: how can structural cooperation between academics and professional practice be facilitated

Contributions to any of these workshops are welcomed. They will be hosted in parallel tracks. The workshops are part of the regular program: all visitors can participate in workshops without extra costs. It is possible to enroll for just one of these workshops (day 1)

Format: A contribution to any of these workshops can be 4-6 pages long, excluding references. Use the Springer format for the proposals.
Type: A contribution can be in the form of a statement or position paper, a study result, an observation, a possible solution, etc.
Workshop: Indicate clearly in the abstract to which workshop you would like to contribute
Deadline: 28 February 2026 AOE
Notification: 12 April 2026

We invite full paper contributions that explore research or present conceptual and methodological solutions to foster and support collaboration between academia and industry in Interaction Design. Papers should address challenges and opportunities in building effective partnerships, offering insights into how academic research can be applied to solve real-world design problems, or how academia can benefit from professional practice. They may report on research outcomes from collaborative projects, propose new frameworks or models for collaboration, or critically analyze existing approaches that connect academia and professional practice in the field of Interaction Design.

These could include studies on knowledge products such as pattern libraries or sets of design principles, discussing their creation, their application in academic and industry domains, their maintenance, etc. Other topics, such as reports on user studies, design studies, and validations, are also welcome, as long as they somehow discuss the cooperation between academia and professional practice.

Format: A full paper can be either 6-8 pages long (short paper), or 10-12 pages long (long paper), excluding references. Use the Springer format for the proposals.
